I heart Pandora.com

It makes my work day a little more bearable.

I'm apparently on a music kick lately, but Pandora radio is a wonderful coping mechanism for cubicle life. I can crank up the tunes and not be distracted by phone conversations, coworker conversations and other office noises.

If you've never used it before, go to www.pandora.com and create a free sign in name. Then you create a "radio station" by entering a favorite song or artist. Pandora magically creates a playlist with tons of variety based on your selection. This is a great way to explore new bands or just to hear songs you've forgotten you liked.

My favories are Cake radio, Ben Folds radio, Duran Duran radio and Weepies radio. I always have a station depending on my mood.

Songs that make me think of summer...

I was listening to an old Dave Matthews Band CD on the way home from work yesterday and one song took me back in time to driving across O'Neal bridge in an old car, my legs hot and sticking to the seat with the windows down and the hot wind blowing my hair. I realized there are certain songs that can take me back in time in a heartbeat. I was thinking of the summer songs...those songs that when I hear them I can feel the sticky Alabama humidity of mid-July, I can smell the beach at Gulf Shores, I can feel the blast of the AC from a car....

So here's my list of summer songs:

1. Rapunzel by Dave Matthews Band - This is my driving across O'Neal bridge with the windows down song.
2. Boys of Summer by Codeseven - This is a remake of the original 80's tune, but it was popular during my summers in Tuscaloosa as I drove to work at Beauty Works
3. Naked and Famous by Santana - Listening to this blare our of Rodney's car (correction: Rodney's big blue truck) in the Johnson's driveway watching the guys play basketball.
4. Who Wears Short Shorts? by The Royal Teens - The oldies station in Gulf Shores always played this and my sister and I got the biggest kick out of it. First line: "Oh man, dig that crazy chick"
5. Nightswimming by REM - jumping off the pier at the Crockett's with Matt, at night of course.
6. Say My Name by Destiny's Child - Really any song of of this CD would work, but this is certainly the song where I feel the car AC on my face.
7. Time Bomb by Rancid - I can taste peanut butter chocolate shakes from Sonic.
8. Crazy by Gnarls Barkley - Bought this CD the first summer we lived in Tallahassee. We used it as our alarm clock CD forever.
9. Tangerine Speedo by Caviar - I was interviewed by the B'ham DJ of the "X" when I called in to request this song several years ago. I thought I was one of the few people who bought this CD and then I found it in Matt's collection when we started dating. It's a match!
10. No Scrubs by TLC - I heard this song 10 years ago on my way to decorate our senior sign before school started my senior year. I was on Dr. Hicks in Florence by the cemetery and I remember thinking, "This is catchy!"

Ok, I have more than just 10 songs, but I wanted to just do what was off the top of my head. If anything, maybe I gave you a few old songs to download.

How about you? What's your summer song? What songs immediately takes you back to some time and place?

Happy Summer!

10 years!

The MHBS Class of '99 celebrated 10 years out of high school this past weekend. It was a blast to talk to old friends and catch up. Everyone seemed to be doing really well.

Our decorations at the lunch.

(my cheerleader outfits, Susan's quilt, Susan's letterman jacket.)

Susan and her adorable 3 week old daughter, Ellie.
Susan was a real trooper. She's our class president and she planned and organized everything while pregnant and then with a newborn.

D.C. Pics

We had an awesome visit to D.C. for Memorial Day. We went to several museums, monuments and tourist traps. We saw the National Memorial Day Concert on the lawn of the Capitol on Sunday night. There were lots of celebrities there. The music was amazing. It was a great vacation.
